27 Feb Badminton Racket Pack Festival
Our inaugral School Games primary badminton festival was held over two mornings on Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th February.
The competition for children in years 5 and 6 was run along the lines of a festival with schools taking part in 10 different activities. Fourteen school teams competed ( Benhurst A/B/C, Parklands A/B, St Peters A/B, Rise Park, Newtons, Scargill, St Josephs and Gidea Park College A/B) and points were awarded for each activity. The events were run with leaders from both Emerson Park, Bower Park and Havering College.
The results from both days were combined to give all schools a finishing position. On the Tuesday it was Newtons who finished in top spot with 1081 points, whilst on the Wednesday it was Benhurst A who topped that group with a massive 1773. After the results were combined, the following schools made up the top 5.
1st: Benhurst A
2nd: Benhurst B
3rd: Parklands B
5th: Scargill A
Benhurst A will now go on to represent Havering in the next round of the competition being held at Redbridge on 26th March.
Amanda Austin who ran the festival said “This is a new format and is fantastic to see so many children enjoying taking park in the activities and all having such a great time. The future of Badminton is looking good after seeing all the children take part today”.
