19 Jan Boccia

The School Games Boccia competition took place at Thames Gateway YMCA on Thursday 18th January with our highest entry to date.

Nine schools brought forty four children to take part in a disability sport that tests muscle control and accuracy.  Players propel balls to land close to a target ball.  Two sides compete as individuals, pairs or as a team of three over a set number of ends.  Each side has six balls (red or blue) each end to try and score points. Points are accumulated over the course of a match to find a winner.

Thames Gateway YMCA have always hosted this competition for the Collective with their expert staff making it fun for all involved.

Teams were divided into 2 groups and all matches took place over 2 ends and many went to a tie break meaning that the competition was very hotly contested. After many nail biting contests the final took place between the winners of each group, Newtons and Harrow Lodge. Harrow Lodge managed to take the victory and will now represent Havering at the London qualifying competition in March.

Boccia winners

Each school received a School Games Spirit of the Games certificate for superb sportsmanship. Ardleigh Green Juniors, Clockhouse and Newtons won the determination awards. Team work certificates went to Hylands, R J Mitchell and St Peters and Harrow Lodge, Scotts and Towers Juniors won the respect award.
