Borough Orienteering Competition

10 Oct Borough Orienteering Competition

On the blustery afternoon of Wednesday 9th October 2019, our borough orienteering championships took place at Stubbers Adventure Centre.  This competition for children in years 6 and 8 is a competitive event to pick a borough team to progress to represent Havering at the British school championships.

Sixteen schools attended the event, 13 primary and 3 secondary.   Competing in pairs, 89 teams took to the courses, mapped out by orienteering expert Josh Jenner.  The challenging routes were 2.1km for primary children and 2.7km for secondary.

Our primary winners were John and Joseph from Benhurst Primary who completed the course in 22 minutes 19 seconds.  Following closely behind in 2nd place were Maisie and Max from Scargill in 23.18. Ruby and Fenton from Engayne Primary took the bronze finishing in 24.57.  An impressive performance by all our winners.

Congratulations to Megan and Chloe from Emerson Park who were the only secondary pair to complete the course with no errors.

The next stage for our winning pairs is a local event in Langdon Hills and then the British schools championships being held in Slough in November.

Well done to everyone who took part in this challenging event.
