11 Oct Orienteering Competition
On Wednesday 11th October our first ever Year 6 Havering Orienteering competition took place at Stubbers Adventure Centre in Upminster.
Over 70 children took part in navigating the 2.2 km course which was set by Josh Jenner from Orienteering Coach.
After a briefing from Josh and a warm up led by Stubbers, pairs of children took to the course armed with maps and electronic dibbers to navigate round the 10 checkpoints. Despite some children literally getting stuck in the mud on the course, it was smiles and laughter all round as they sprinted for the finish line.
Finishing first were Harry and Jack from Upminster Junior in a time of 22.06. Second place went to George and Lucas also from Upminster Junior in 23.51 and in third place were Emily and Thomas in 24.47.
Congratulations to all of our winners who will now progress to represent Havering at the British Schools Orienteering Championships to be held at the Forest of Dean in November.
