25 Apr Primary Basketball Competition
The Havering School Games primary basketball competition took place at The Sacred Heart of Mary Secondary School on Tuesday 19th April.
14 teams attended the 3 on 3 event and played a series of pool matches after which the semi-finalists were determined. The 10 minute games were fast and furious taking place in one half of a normal basketball court and using just one hoop. The standard of play was very high and it was apparent that many more children are playing basketball in the community as well as at school and to this end we were supported on the day by 5 Star Basketball Academy. The Academy is now running basketball sessions in the Borough giving more children a chance to play the sport and we are very grateful to their staff for assisting us with our competition.
The semi-final matches were played between Hylands and Parsonage Farm and, Harold Wood and St Edwards resulting in the final game being contested by Harold Wood and Parsonage Farm. The match was very close with a great standard of play from both teams with Harold Wood eventually winning by 8 points to 4.
Harold Wood will now go forward to represent Havering in the School Games finals being held at Crystal Palace on 30th June.
School Games values certificates for respect went to Harold Wood, St Patricks and Wykeham and Scargill, Benhurst and Elm Park picked up the teamwork awards.
Thanks to Sacred Heart for hosting the competition and to 5 Star for their support.
