17 Mar Quick Sticks Hockey Festival
On Wednesday 15th March, the School Games Quick Sticks hockey festival for years 5 and 6 was held at Coopers Coborn School. In stark contrast to the original date of the competition which saw storm Doris arrive, we were instead greeted with glorious sunshine and the warmest day of the year so far!
Twenty one schools entered the festival in which 8 minute matches were played by teams of 4, including two boys and two girls. The group stages were competed in fantastic spirit, with superb skill and determination displayed by all.
Upminster Juniors, Towers, St. Edward’s, Harold Wood, Broadford, Oakfields, St. Joseph’s and Gidea Park progressed to the enthusiastically played quarter finals, which concluded dramatically with penalties and sudden death! Semi-finals were then played as Upminster Juniors vs St. Edward’s and Oakfields vs St. Joseph’s. Upminster Juniors and St. Joseph’s took the wins to progress to the final.
Congratulations to St. Josephs who displayed tremendous skill to win the final and will now go on to compete in the London Youth Games.
The School Games Values awarded for the festival were for teamwork and passion:
Team Work: Scargill, Broadford and Oakfields supported each other and worked together to have fun and achieve their best.
Passion: Drapers Brookside, Newtons and Hilldene approached each match with enthusiasm and positivity.
Well done to everyone who took part in the festival. Special thanks to the umpires, the leaders from Emerson Park and to all who were involved in making the competition a success.
