15 Oct Skipping Activity Week
The Havering Sports Collective ‘Skipping Activity Week’ took place during the week of 28th October 2020.
Collective schools were sent activity cards and invited to join our daily challenges which covered all levels of skipping abilities. Alongside the cards, short videos were shared to demonstrate the activities.
Non skippers were given activities such as stepping, hopping, jumping and side swings. Skippers were challenged with jumping jacks and twisters.
Skipping is all about getting children physically active and having fun and the feedback received from schools who participated supports this. Children at St. Josephs said:
‘We took part in skipping week and it was so much fun! We practised our skipping technique, watched some skipping videos, helped our friends and learnt all about why we need to exercise. We liked it so much that we even practise at lunch time now!’
Alongside the physical activities, cultural competitions were held for children in KS1 and children in KS2.
Children from KS1 were invited to submit a drawing of themselves or a friend participating in the skipping activities. Congratulations to Lara from St. Joseph’s who was selected as the overall KS1 winner.
Children from KS2 were invited to create a poster or piece of artwork around how important it is to stay physically active and healthy, using skipping as a topic. Congratulations to Kie from Harold Wood who was selected as the overall KS2 winner.
All of the children selected as winners for their school will receive a participation certificate and a skipping rope for their fantastic efforts.
Skipping activity week was an all round success and we look forward to seeing what our Boccia activity week will bring in November!
