Sports Hall Athletics Report

08 Dec Sports Hall Athletics Report

There were 3 rules given to participants at the Sports Hall athletics event held at Hornchurch Sports Centre for Years 5/6 on Wednesday 30th November and on Thursday 1st December for Years 3/4:

Rule Number 1: Listen
Rule Number 2: Noise
Rule Number 3: Have fun

It can confidently be said that all 3 rules were fully adhered to during the competition which saw the children participate in running, jumping, leaping, throwing, bouncing and hurdling with boundless energy.  Competitors listened intently to instructions and raised the roof by encouraging, cheering and supporting each other….. It’s not often that students are told to make as much noise as possible!  The smiles and enthusiasm displayed throughout the event spoke volumes that is was most definitely enjoyed by all.

Adam Burgess from Sportshall UK did an exceptional job of organising and running the competition to a tight schedule and together with pupils from our leadership academy ensured that the event was a complete success.

Twenty seven teams entered the year 5/6 competition which was run across 2 sessions.  Scores were totalled to reveal Ardleigh Green as the overall winners of the day, followed by St Edwards and Broadford/Mead.  Ardleigh Green will now progress to participate in London School Games.

The School Games Values awarded for Years 5/6 were for passion and determination:

Passion: Hacton, Drapers Brookside, Rise Park, St Edwards, Crowlands and The Learning Federation approached the competition with enthusiasm and positivity.

Determination: Mawney, Nelmes, Drapers Pyrgo, Towers, Gidea Park and Parklands were committed and pushed themselves to be the very best they could be.

Twenty six teams entered the year 3/4 competition, with Ardleigh Green again coming out on top, followed by St Edwards and Hacton.

The School Games Values awarded for Years 3/4 were for honesty and self belief:

Honesty: Harold Court, St Marys, Branfil, Hacton, Dame Tipping and Whybridge promoted fairness throughout the competition.

Self Belief: Suttons, Hylands, Scotts, La Salette, Harold Wood and St Edwards had the self belief and confidence to succeed and reach their personal best.

Congratulations to Ardleigh Green and well done to all of the teams who took part in this fantastic event.

Sharon Phillips from Havering Sports Collective said of the event: “We have had a fantastic 2 days thanks to Adam Burgess of Sportshall UK who has been inspirational in his delivery of our Sportshall athletics event.  I hope that every child has had a fun but high quality experience where they have been able to perform to the best of their ability.  We now look forward to our Infant school event in January”.

Thank you to the teachers and parents who escorted the pupils to the event – your continued support is always very much appreciated.
