23 Mar Tag Rugby Competition – Years 3 & 4
On 22nd March 2016, 25 year 3 and 4 tag rugby teams descended on the fields at Upminster Rugby Club for the Havering competition. We couldn’t have asked for better weather as the sun shone down from a bright blue sky, perfect for playing and spectating. Teams were divided into 4 pools and played for their places in the cup, plate and shield competitions. Matches were refereed by students from Hall Mead School under the close eye of rugby coach, Scott Murphy who organised the day. The children had a morning of fun with lots of games and during the lunch break Scott Murphy sorted schools into their final pools based on their match results. The top placed schools then played in the cup competition with the next best placed playing for the plate and then the shield. As there were 2 pools in each competition the finals were played between the winners of each pool. Upminster Junior and Scotts played for the shield with Scotts winning 5 points to 4. Upminster Junior and Towers competed for the plate with Upminster crowned the winners. The overall winner of the day, contesting the cup against James Oglethorpe Primary was Parsonage Farm Primary School.
Our thanks go to Hall Mead School for providing the referees, Scott Murphy for organising the day and Upminster Rugby Club for hosting the competition.
