30 Mar Tag Rugby Festival – Years 3 and 4
On Wednesday 29th March, the Tag Rugby festival for years 3 and 4 was hosted at Upminster Rugby Club.
Twenty three schools entered the festival which was supported and refereed by students from Barking and Dagenham Rugby Club.
Teams competed in six minute group matches to determine which competition they would progress to in the afternoon; the Shield, Plate or Cup. The competitions ran as two pools, each with four teams, resulting in a straight final between the two pool winners.
Finals were played as Rush Green vs Gidea Park for the Shield. Towers (Whites) vs RJ Mitchell for the Plate and Branfil vs Oakfields for the Cup.
Congratulations to Rush Green, Towers (Whites) and Oakfields for winning the competitions.
Well done to all of the teams who took part in this wonderful event. We firmly believe the winner of the day was most definitely rugby!
The School Games Values awarded for the festival were for teamwork and respect:
Respect: Clockhouse, Rainham Village and James Oglethorpe treated others politely and with understanding.
Team Work: Whybridge, Dame Tipping and Towers (Blue)supported each other and worked together to have fun and achieve their best.
Seeing the children smiling, embracing the spirit of the competition and most importantly having fun was the main aim of the day. The festival was played with such enthusiasm, determination and energy. It was a fitting way to end what has been a tremendous term of sport for Havering schools.
Thank you to Scott Murphy and Upminster Rugby Club for running and hosting the festival; to Barking and Dagenham Rugby Club for supporting the children throughout the day and as always to all of the teachers and parents for your continued support.
